H+K Architects, formerly known as Hershenow + Klippenstein Architects, was established on April 1, 1994, by Max Hershenow, AIA, and Jeff Klippenstein, AIA. Having both grown up in Reno, Max and Jeff first met playing summer league baseball in the 1970s. Later in life, they each discovered their passion for design and construction, driving their individual academic and professional pursuits. After gaining valuable experience in design, planning, project administration, and client service at renowned local architecture firms, Max and Jeff ventured out on their own. Since then, H+K has been fully dedicated to each project from the outset, leading to steady growth and a strong reputation among clients and peers. With over 30 years of experience, H+K continues to be a highly respected firm in Nevada, having completed over 1000 regional projects.
On April Fool’s Day 1994, Hershenow + Klippenstein Architects was launched, setting up shop in a basement office on Grant Street.
A decade later, Hershenow + Klippenstein underwent a brand refresh. In their first ten years, the team transitioned through three different locations (Grant Street, Court Street, and Barron Way) before settling into a more permanent space on Reno Corporate Drive.
Six years later, on another April Fool’s Day, Hershenow + Klippenstein rebranded once more, simplifying their name to H+K—saving everyone plenty of spellchecking.
After nearly 30 years of leadership and dedication, co-founder Max Hershenow retired leaving behind a legacy of community commitment and a thriving practice.
In celebration of 30 years of H+K, the firm launched a refreshed website and relocated to a vibrant new space on Washington Street.
