Camp We Ch Me
The Historic Fish Hatchery Community Center is an adaptive reuse of a 1930’s era WPA building of significant historical value. It is a hall for public meetings, receptions and camp functions. The building had been out of use for an umber of years and had fallen into disrepair. To be put back into public use, the building needed to conform to current codes while adhering to the historical exterior look of the building.
The existing roof structure did not meet the current code requirements for snow loads and therefore had to be completely removed. The entire roof structure was demolished and replaced with a free-standing roof system. The new trusses were designed to harken back to the trusses that were removed. The existing unreinforced granite walls are very unique and were retained. The new roof is supported by a slender steel frame inserted, but not touching the historic granite walls.
Historic windows were industrial in character and retained with new glazing installed using glazing putty to match the original installation.
