The Snow Removal Equipment Building is a high-bay building for the storage of 18 large vehicles in the snow removal equipment fleet. The building is a clear-span steel structure with large doors for movement of vehicles during inclement weather events.
The form is a straightforward response to the function. The butterfly roof drains to the middle of the structure to minimize problems with roof drainage during inclement weather. The structural system was developed to allow maximum flexibility and width of the vehicle bays. The building also features a hydronic heating system in the concrete slab. This system provides occupant heating while also with melting the snow from the underside of the vehicles.
The building puts a high priority on natural daylight with large bands of clerestory windows. Due to the relatively infrequent occupied use of the building, this natural lighting allows for all the ambient light required for day-to-day use. The project also includes airside and landside site improvements such as airfield fencing, access gates, heated concrete aprons and utility reconstruction.
